Frequently asked questions
To ensure a long-lasting bouquet you should:
Use a clean vase
Dirty vases can harbor bacteria that can clog the stems and prevent flowers from absorbing water and nutrients.
Add flower food
Flower food packets come with each bouquet and can help nourish the flowers and limit bacteria in the water.
Keep leaves out of the water
Remove any leaves that will be below the water line in the vase. Submerged leaves can decay and shorten the life of the flowers.
Change the water
Change the water every two to three days, or sooner if it becomes cloudy.
Trim the stems
Trim the stems ¼ inch per day at an angle with a sharp knife or scissors. This allows for better absorption and hydration. One exception is daffodils. Do not cut daffodils as they secrete a sap that will harm other flowers.
Use cool water
Warm water can travel up the stems faster and accelerate the blooming process. [2]
